Treasure Hunt – The Fabulous Creations of Maria Filipe :: Caça ao tesouro – The Fabulous Creations of Maria Filipe

Maria Filipe is a gifted Portuguese designer who makes the happiest toys using mostly felt and wool. Her creations are simultaneously cute and delicious. Color and fun pops out from each character.

Between her figurines and funky jewelry there is an eclectic mix of characters. The latest ones are cups of milk and juice that reveal their flavor “personalities” through their expressions (the al mond milk looks peaceful and sweet while the chocolate milk looks funny and playful). The bears are also really cute and full of expressiveness.

Take a little time to explore and enjoy Maria’s creations on Facebook, Behance and Etsy!

It’s difficult to pick a favorite, and I guess that is a good thing because it keeps me wanting to go back and see what she is up to.

Treasure Hunt: Rodica :: Caça ao Tesouro: Rodica

There is something magical about miniature houses, the ones so tiny that you can actually carry them in your pocket. It’s as if you could build a whole new world from scratch without taking too much space. Rodica’s small houses are the perfect example. They are tiny, portable and even a single one will probably make you smile. At least that’s the effect they have on me.

Rodi’s houses come in all shapes and styles, and are always beautifully coloured. From the villages with a Mediterranean style to the mushroom houses, it’s easy to loose yourself in her small world. I particularly enjoy the Italian houses and the small cottages, as they remind me so much of the Portuguese villages. But I invite you to explore and choose your own favourite!

You can find her work here:

Benedetta is a talented Italian living in Lisbon. She brings Fulana, Beltrana e Sicrana dolls alive with her ingenuity and each one of them has its own unique character.

The inspiration for her brand came from the Portuguese expression “Fulano, Beltrano e Sicrano”, which is used when you refer to people and you don’t know their names, much in the same way as you would use ‘Tom, Dick and Harry” in English.

I especially like the care she puts into each one, and how she uses a mix of materials including upcycled fabrics, repurposed materials such as umbrellas’ fabric for making waterproof jackets, and traditional materials, such as burel, for limited editions.

I hope you do enjoy this little peek and get into the spirit to explore more of her work.

Summer is just around the corner and that gives me the perfect reason to talk about Don Fisher! For me Summer has a lot to do with long days at the beach, dipping in and out of water… just like fish!

Don Fisher is a Spanish “fishmonger” developed by Julia Castaño. The trays are full of bright and lovely fish cases with species from the Mediterranean and, more recently, from the Alaska. The colours are beautiful and the fish is lively and fresh… you can only get better watching them under the sea!

You can learn more about Don Fisher through their website. I hope that you enjoy this underwater exploration!

I have been following Stephanie Kilgast and Petit Plat for a long time. I was always fascinated by the detailed miniature food and by how real it all looks. It’s like walking into a pastry shop or a farmer’s market full of deliciousness ready to be picked.
This year she took up the challenge of sculpting one fruit or vegetable each day. Not only they look incredibly realistic, but they also give me the urge of knowing more about them and trying them out.
Aside from the food miniatures she has also done some amazing work with coral reef landscapes and cosmic jewellery.
If you don’t know her work I invite you to go over and explore. I am sure you will be surprised!

You can find her blog here, explore her Flickr account and visit her shop.

Today I am bringing you Barruntando, a Spanish collective that produces imaginative and sweet ceramics.  From functional home objects to decorative figurines, their work is unique and reflects the different interests of the team.

Most of their work is made using white clay, later painted with colourful pigments, giving it an atmosphere of light sprinkled with confetti. My favourite work is their animal bowls and figurines and their yarn bowls. And since spring has just begun, their pieces are a lovely way to get some colour in our spaces. I hope that you enjoy exploring!

Joana Rosa Bragança is a Portuguese illustrator whose work is full of startling people and animals. There is an unmistaken flavour of Portuguese colours. The rosy cheeks in her characters take me back to a sunny countryside, with wheat flowing in the wind and the colourful scarves that dress the heads of the older women.

Amidst her folks there are also quirky characters and nice animals. All of them seem to remind me of the colour of life and the joy of simple things. I invite you to take some time to explore her blog, where you will be able to see the latest projects of Joana Rosa!
